2011 Goal: Weight Loss....MY PLAN

One of my major goals for 2011 is to lose 20 lbs. I would love to be under 200 lbs which is a number I have not seen since I got married in 2005. Over the last few years I have gained, lost, gained, lost, etc.... I have started weight loss plans....(Dr. Phil, The South Beach Diet, Weight Watchers, etc.)....some have worked but the moment I get off of them the weight just comes back on. In the past 6 years I have also had 3 pregnancies...with Rebecca I gained 35lbs. With Jacob I was up to 265lbs. EEK! (There is a joke that I cannot enter into a weight loss competition with anyone because the 2 times I have been serious about it in the last 5 years I have gotten pregnant within a month of the beginning of the competition! LOL).

I have decided that this year I am done doing fad diets, etc. I want to be in better health. I want to have more energy. I want to be able to run after my kids and not get winded. I want to feel better about myself. I need to focus on getting my health in order and I need to be a good example for my kids.

To do this I have a plan. I am NOT going to go on a fad diet. I just am going to be more sensible about what I eat. I am going to menu plan each week (something I started in December) and stuck to for the most part. I am going to work on this in parts. These parts will take the place over 1 month each. It takes 21 days to form a habit and I hope that by focusing on 1 diet and 1 exercise habit a month I will be able to become healthier and happier and to stick to each new change. So the plan so far is:

ALL YEAR:
  • Every Sunday I want to post my current weight and how I did the previous week. Not only will this hold me accountable to you wonderful blog readers, but it will also make me accountable to myself.
JANUARY:
  • DIET: menu planning each week
  • EXERCISE: exercising using my Wii Fit Plus for 20+ minutes Monday- Friday of each week. Saturdays and Sundays will be relax days. These are family days and I will do some sort of physical activity with the family, whether it is playing the Wii, chasing the kids, etc.
FEBRUARY:
  • DIET: Continue to menu plan. Drink more water each day. I want to start with aiming for 4-5 glasses of water the first 2 weeks, then 6-8 glasses the last 2 weeks. I drink way too much diet pop and want to cut that back or completely out.
  • EXERCISE: exercise Monday-Friday at least 40+ minutes on the Wii Fit.
MARCH:
  • DIET: Continue to menu plan and drink water. Lent begins March 9 (for Catholics) so for Lent I think I will give up all candy (chocolate and non-chocolate). I eat way too much of the stuff.
  • EXERCISE: exercise Monday-Friday, alternating Wii Fit Plus with exercise DVDs. Begin to research 5Ks that are run in June or later.
APRIL:
  • DIET: Continue to menu plan, drink water, no candy (until Easter). I want to stop drinking pop at home. So take out diet pop from home. Limit to 1 a day the first week of April, 1 every other day the second week, 1 every 3 days the 3rd week, and none the last week. I will allow myself to have diet pop if we go out to eat or are at someones home.
  • EXERCISE: Exercise everyday. Do Jillian Michael's 30 day shred DVD. I have tried this in the past and really got a good workout but gave up after 5 days. I want to COMPLETE it! Sign up for a 5K run in July or later.
So far that is the plan. I really hope that I can do this. I want to be healthier and happier. I want to have more energy and I want to feel good about myself. I think know I can do this!!!

  1. I have been doing Weight Watchers for 2 years, and when I actually DO the program, it works for me! I have PCOS, so I have been fighting with my weight since college.

I put in my personal goals to lose 20 lbs. In my head...I would LOVE to be at goal by the end of the year (which would be about 40 lbs)...but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. ;)
