HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM OUR HOUSE TO YOURS!!!! MAY YOU GET MORE TREATS THAN TRICKS!! HAVE A GREAT HALLOWEEN!

Pneumonia!!!!

Last night while I was at work, I got a phone call from my hubby. Now he only calls if there is an emergency, and he knows not to call after 5 as I am almost always unavailable from 5-6. Well yesterday he called around 5:15. I answered the phone and he asked if there was any way I could come home because Jacob was crying, sounding like he was having trouble breathing and he was almost throwing up too and Bill didn't know what to do. So I called my boss, asked her to come back in to work (she lives 2 minutes away). As soon as she got there I came home.

I took Jacob's temperature and it was 102. I asked Bill to take Jacob to Urgent Care because of his fever, that it came on suddenly and the fact that he was breathing weird. I stayed home with Benjamin and Rebecca. I also asked him to take the car, so I could have the van just in case. (Jacob had a runny nose and an occasional cough earlier that day but his energy level was high and he was playing and running around like he norm…

Making Jack-o-lanterns

Image
A few weeks ago, I let Rebecca and Jacob each pick a pumpkin at Aldi when then had them on sale of $1.99 each. The pumpkins were huge! I figured they would last until we could carve them to make jack-o-lanterns if we kept them inside....and they did.

Well Sunday was the day to make our pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns.

First off, Bill and I had to help the kids take all the guts and seeds out of the their pumpkins. Rebecca did help clean out her pumpkin, but Jacob wanted no part in it. He just kept saying it was yucky!

After they were all cleaned out, I helped Jacob draw his face on his pumpkin. He said he wanted a sad jack-o-lantern, with triangle eyes and a circle nose. Then I helped him cut his face out of the pumpkin.

Rebecca drew her own face on hers. Then Bill helped her cut hers out.

Later that night, we put them on the porch with candles inside and we officially have our 2013 jack-o-lanterns! I think they turned out pretty good!

Do you allow your kids to make jack-o-lanterns? …

Happy Homemaker Monday

Image
It is Monday again, which means that it’s "Happy Homemaker Monday," a project which is hosted by Sandra over at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom. Each week, she hosts "Happy Homemaker Monday" as a way to highlight what is going on in her world. This week I have decided to join in... So here is a little glimpse into my world on this Monday! The Weather:::
Right now it is around 30 degrees. Nice and cold! But it is supposed to be sunny and around 55 today so I really can't complain.

Right now I am:::Typing this post up, thinking about the days plans. Jacob is sitting in the recliner watching cartoons; Benjamin is digging around in the toy bins and sliding toys all over the floor. Somewhat of a normal Monday morning at our house.

Thinking:::that I have a lot that I want to do, but not sure if I have time. That the laundry should be done in the washer so I need to go flip that.

Volley for Life event

Image
Last night, my daughter's school held a "Volley for Life" event to help raise money for our school's Relay for Life team. I am a part of our school's team and so I took the kids to the event to help raise money!

Basically, they held an exhibition of the 4th through 8th grade volleyball teams playing each other. There was also concessions, including cancer ribbon cookies, etc. Another member of our team, who makes and sells jewelry, was selling her bottlecap necklaces with cancer ribbons on them, with all proceeds going to our Relay for Life team.

It was a fun night! Rebecca, Jacob and Benjamin had a blast and I was so happy to see that our school gym was packed! It was nice to be able to see my little brother play volleyball probably for the last time as a member of St. Vincent's team. And all for a good cause!  I don't know the total raised, but judging by the number of people there, I would say the night was a huge success!

Hubby's work situation

This week has been pretty stressful around our house. Hubby has been put in a work situation that is causing him a lot of stress and anxiety…and that is carrying over into our personal life. For those of you who don't know...Bill is the sports editor at the newspaper based in our town.

Basically he is convinced that his boss is out to have him fired. I will admit that when we have talked about his job and he has presented me with what has been going on at work, that I have to believe that what he says is true. Well yesterday Bill came home highly upset and anxious. He had another run in with his boss.

Finally, we had a talk and I told him that if he felt that he was being called to look for a different position then I would support his decision. I hope that I am doing the best that I can to support him but there are times that I don’t know that I am. I don’t know how I can support him….I just don’t know….

While I was at work, Bill texted me and told me that he was going to apply to …

Not sure how I feel about this...

Last night I got a phone call from my mom….she wanted to know if I knew that the OB/GYN that delivered Benjamin was no longer working at the office that I had been seeing her at. I said no, that was news to me. My mother was talking to another mom who happens to see this particular gynecologist and she said that when she went in for her appt on Monday that the receptionist had to reschedule her because the doc was no longer practicing with them. After some investigating, it seems that she was asked to leave the practice after a recent c-section where the patient almost bled out. There was a similar incident last year involving this doctor, where she “forgot” to stitch up a uterus during a c-section. This was all news to me.

When I got off the phone with my mother, I googled the doctor and a couple of interesting things came up. The hospitals website just said that she had moved her practice elsewhere and you could schedule with one of the other 3 OB/GYNs. Then I found a business addr…

Enjoying the fall weather this past weekend...

Image
Over the weekend I took advantage of the nice weather and took the kids outside to play while I cleaned out our van. The weather was cool, but not cold. The kids had a blast in the leaves!

Unfortunately that may be the last time we can play outside in just jackets. It is now cold, and they are calling for snow showers mixed in with rain the next couple of days. I am sure the snow won’t stick but still…I want some warmer temperatures back.

What is the weather like where you are?

Give Yourself a Raise by Gordon Bennett Bleil (review)

Image
My thoughts:

Give Yourself a Raise by Gordon Bennett Bleil is a great basic financial advice book for everyone. This isn't necessarily a book for those who have millions of dollars, but it is perfect for the average Joe or Jane who just wants to have more money, less financial stress and more financial freedom in their budgets. And my thoughts are who doesn't?

I love how the book is set up into 2 parts...the first section being about what you can do to manage your money day to day. Bleil offers a financial freedom risk assessment quiz so that you can see where you are right now financially. He offers worksheets and graphs to show you how to make goals for your financial health and to forecast your financial future. He talks about managing your debt and getting your financial leaks under control.

The second section of the book, offers a greater understanding of the finance industry including government programs, credit scores, identity theft, and retirement and investing. I fo…

Looky what I got in the mail.....and a surprise dinner out....

Image
I almost titled this post: "When being spontaneous pays off"

Take these two examples:

First up is a gift I received in the mail.

I don't always like getting the mail....especially when I am expecting bills or something like that. Well last week I had a surprise waiting for me when I opened our door to collect our mail for the day.
There was a priority mail box waiting for me on the front porch....

Inside was a bunch of stuff that I won from a blogging giveaway from Sluggy over at "DON'T READ THIS; IT'S BORING!!!!". I won one of her giveaways! I was super excited because most of the things in the box were items that our family uses! Here is what was in the box:

THANK YOU SLUGGY!!!! You made my day! :) Secondly was something that happened yesterday: Yesterday I got another surprise. Before going into work, I made a meat loaf and scalloped potatoes for dinner so that Bill could feed the boys before I came home. (I worked 2-6pm). Well, around 4:45 I get a …

Jacob's 4th birthday party

Image
This year for Jacob's 4th birthday, we decided to keep things very simple and just do cake and ice cream with the grandparents.

I will admit that I felt a little guilty not having a party per se, with lots of food and lots of guest, etc. It was definitely different than what we have done in the past.

But you know what, Jacob had a blast. I didn't have to stress the night before about how clean the house is, if all the food was ready to go, etc.

Instead, our party day looked like this:

Got up (late in fact...45 minutes before we had to leave for church)
Showered, got dressed for church
Fed the kids, got them dressed for church
Went to church
Let the kids play on the playground after church
Let Jacob pick where he wanted to get lunch at. He chose McDonald's to eat at home!

Had lunch and watched an Avengers cartoon we had rented for the kids the night before.
My parents came over.
Bill's parents came home.
Had cake and ice cream.

Jacob opened his presents.

We talked …

Happy 4th birthday Jacob!

Image
4 years ago Bill took me to the hospital because I was having some pains and being 37 weeks pregnant and having a high risk pregnancy meant that you went to the hospital. After leaving Rebecca with Bill's parents (who lived 10 minutes from the hospital), we went up to labor and delivery to be seen. It was around 8:30 at night. They did all kinds of tests and none seem to say that I was in labor. They thought maybe I was dehydrated, etc. Finally, the nurse talked to the doctor and he ordered one more test to be done before I could be released to go home. Well as soon as she did the test, I ended up going into active labor! I had to have an emergency c-section, as Jacob was breech and was in such a position that it would physically not be possible to deliver him naturally. I remember that we had to wait until 1am as I had eaten pancakes for dinner that night and we had to wait 8 hours since I ate before the surgery. I was scared to death! We decided not to tell anyone that Jacob was…

Chasin' Cheeky playdate with friends

Image
This past weekend, we had some friends over to try out some games and for lunch. We invited Benjamin's Godparents over and their kids for some Sunday fun!

We had a simple lunch of hot dogs and chili...along with the new Cheetos Simply Natural White cheddar puffy puffs!

Everyone loved the puffs, especially Benjamin's Godfather, who ate 2 single size bags! He said they were delicious. I thought they were milder in flavor than I would have liked. The kids loved them. My friend, Amanda, said that she was happy that they didn't leave white residue all over her fingers. I might buy these again for the family, however they would be an occasional treat as they are a little more expensive than the regular Cheetos.

After lunch, we settled back to watch the kids play some games.

First up was "Chasin' Cheeky." The premise is that the rings are tossed around and the kids have to take the rings and put them on the monkey's tail as the monkey moves around. Whomever …

From the back cover:

The Struggle of Pain.
And How, Sometimes, Following God Can Lead You to the Most Unexpected Places.

A talented runner determined to make the Olympics, Sabrina Rice had her dreams shattered by a devastating diagnosis. One forfeited scholarship and several years later, she's forged a new vision for her future that has nothing to do with running, which she's buried deep, intent on forgetting...

Until the day she sees Brandy Philip running across the college campus, easily outpacing security. Sabrina immediately recognizes world class potential, and it's all the more painful that it belongs to a troublemaking teen.
