Weigh In Wednesday #1

So I said on Monday (my birthday) that the year of me being 35 was going to be the year of some changes...As my husband said, he has heard it before...but this time I am serious. I am halfway to 70 years old. My children are getting older and it is TIME to make some changes with me.

One of the things that I need/want to change has to do with my weight. I have struggled with my weight the majority of my life. I remember being teased in grade school, high school and college about my weight. I am of the mindset now that I don't need to be skinny, I just want/need to be healthy. And right now I am not healthy. I am overweight and just not happy with how I look or how I feel. I am constantly tired and just feel blah, and I think a lot of that has to do with inactivity and the way that I have been eating. I am at the highest that I have been in the last 10 years, (minus the times that I have been pregnant).

I really would like to lose 40 lbs over the course of the year, which is doable as it is less than a pound a week. But I know it will be hard work as well. I have several things I need to work on, including eating better, drinking more water, moving more and being less stressed (or at least finding a stress reliever that does not involve chocolate!). I know that I can't attack all of these things at once, as that would only set me up for failure....

So I have decided to have a weekly accountability forum here on my blog. Every Wednesday I will be posting a "Weigh In Wednesday" post where I will post my weight taken that morning and things that I did good on the previous week, and things (goals) to work on for the next week. I think that by doing this, I can break it down into smaller goals and hopefully make myself more accountable!

So here we are in week 1::

My official starting weight is:::  235.6 lbs.
My food goal for this week::: Only drink 1 diet pop a day, the rest of the time choose water.
My fitness goal for the week::: Do a Wii Fit activity for 20 minutes at least 4 days.

So there you have it. My new plan for losing weight. The year of being 35 will be the year of change. I WANT it. I NEED to do this to be healthier and hopefully to be on the right foot to live at least another 35 years.

Any words of wisdom? Thoughts? Advice?
I would love to have all the support I can get!!

  1. Good luck, Rachel! I've had weight concerns since having the kids. Lost weight post divorce, (yay!) but put it back on following 2 back to back shoulder surgeries that had me in a recliner for 2 months. Time to take care of ourselves to be sure! One thing: I've read that diet soda (the sweeteners) can actually cause one to put ON weight. Something you may want to google. When I last lost weight, portion control, no eating past 8 p.m., watching caloric beverages, limiting dessert of any kind to once/week, watching snacks really helped. The 4 o'clock hour is hard for me *(lunch at work is often 11 am) so I have my salad then as an appetizer to keep pangs at bay.

    Good luck!

  2. You go! You have a plan and the desire and that is more than half the battle!

  3. Good luck, Rachel! And ditch that soda for good :) Or use it as a reward once in a while when you reach a major goal (5 or 10 lbs loss). Also plain walking really helped me to lose weight last year. I'm not much of a runner but I would walk 4-5 miles 5 times a week with my neighbor, and it made a big difference. Now, after babies are born, I will have to do it all over again :)
