What's for dinner?

One of the things that I want to do in 2016 is to plan our dinner menus weekly and post them here for accountability.Breakfasts are usually yogurt and fruit or cereal and fruit for the kids and Bill and I find whatever we are in the mood for. Lunch is usually something quick for Benjamin (chicken nuggets, corn dog, PB and J) with fruit and leftovers for Bill and I. During the school year, Rebecca and Jacob get free lunch at their school. That leaves dinner for the family....

I started menu planning at the beginning of the year and I will say that with a few exceptions, it has worked!

HOW DID WE DO LAST WEEK???

MONDAY::: Orange chicken in the crockpot, rice, green beans-- YES

TUESDAY::: Lasagna soup casserole and corn--YES

WEDNESDAY::: Cheese pizza and fruit-- YES

THURSDAY::: Taco boats, mexican rice, and corn-- YES, the kids had taco boats and corn, Bill and I had date night.

FRIDAY::: Fish, macaroni and cheese and peas-- YES

SATURDAY:::Whole chicken in the crockpot, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans-- YES

SUNDAY::: This is Valentine's Day. We will NOT be going back but I will cook my dear husband a steak dinner at home! Steak, baked potato, asparagus and salad. I will probably do chicken nuggets and french fries for the kiddos as that is their favorites! :) -- YES and NO...I made steak, baked potato and asparagus for hubby. I made the same for me, but with green beans instead of the asparagus as I can't stand asparagus. I let the kids make their own homemade pizzas. They loved it!

So overall, a GREAT week of menu planning! Going forward in the next week (possibly 2), I am going to be trying to use up what we have in our upright freezer as I need to defrost it. That should keep our grocery bills lower as well! So with that ideology going on....

WHAT ARE WE EATING THIS WEEK???

MONDAY::: Chicken and cheese casserole and green beans

TUESDAY::: Cheeseburgers and steak fries

WEDNESDAY::: Cajun chicken, julienne potatoes, peas

THURSDAY::: Spaghetti with meat sauce

FRIDAY::: Fish, macaroni and cheese, and broccoli

SATURDAY::: Waffles, sausage, bacon, fruit

SUNDAY::: Homemade pizza (maybe date night??)

I tend to make our menus out on Sunday night to go from Monday to Sunday. I usually go to the grocery store one day during the week (usually Wednesday but sometimes another day). For this week's menu, I need pepperoni for the pizzas on Sunday.

Hopefully, I will be able to stick to this plan and can report back success next week!

Do you menu plan?
Do you have a favorite dinner to share?

  1. I do menu plan a little but since it's just Kazi and I we can change the meal to suit our plans for that day. I usually decide in the morning what will be for dinner and then I can pick up anything I need during that day. I have a grocery store 1 block from home so that really helps.

  2. I am still a horrible true menu planner, but I do always have a very rough idea in place, which changes each Wednesday when the new food ads start and i see what produce is a special buy.

  3. Looks great! Menu planning is a real budget and time saver for me, and helps reduce/eliminate food waste in the process. Can you post the orange chicken recipe? TIA!
