MY THOUGHTS:::

This year the American people are going to elect another man or woman to join the list of Presidents of our great nation. I know that my children are aware of the presidential election, however I don't know how much my children know about past presidents. So I was excited to receive a copy of Callista Gingrich's book Hail to the Chief, which showcases some of our great President's throughout history. Ellis the Elephant travels throughout history to showcase past Presidents starting with George Washington, through Woodrow Wilson, through Eisenhower, and through Reagan. The book stresses that Ellis the Elephant has great respect and admiration for all the Presidents that have governed the USA.

I thought this was a really cute book. I loved the rhyming narrative that flowed perfectly and wasn't a "dry" portrayal of American history. I felt that the illustrator, Susan Arciero, did a fabulous job of making the Presidents appear youthful and relatable to children. My 9 year old read it with no issues to her brothers and they all enjoyed the book.

This would make a wonderful addition to a personal library as well as a teacher's classroom library!
