February and March Decluttering Project: The Master Bedroom (update #4)

One of my goals for 2017 is to give our home a deep decluttering. As I mentioned in my New Year's Goals post,  I want to take a room a month and really give it a good cleaning and decluttering. In January, I chose my nemesis-- the room/closet off of the bathroom. And I am pleased to say that I was able to declutter it completely!

After giving it much thought, for February, I decided to work on our master bedroom. What better thing to do for my husband, whom I love with all my heart, than to give him, and us, a place to truly relax in at the end of the day instead of being faced with laundry piles, miscellaneous stuff that has been stashed in our room, etc.

The first week, I tackled my dresser area and the floor around it.

The last time I had posted, I had tackled my husband's dresser.

After the last time I posted, I mentioned the I was going to work on my closet. Well...that didn't happen. Instead I decided to work on the books and the corner of the room near the window. Here is the before:

And after..

I was able to get rid of a few books. I still need Bill to go through his books, but it looks so much better. I bought a new shelf off facebook for $5 to turn into my nightstand and then repurposed the shelf that I was using in the corner to hold some of Bill's books. It looks so much better in there.

Due to not being as productive on the decluttering as I would have liked in February, I decided to move this project into March as well. So, last week, I was able to work a little bit on our closet. It was horrible. There was so much crap on the floor.

I was able to get the floor cleaned off. The bookcase holds my tutoring resources. I got that organized and cleaned up. It looks a lot better.

I still have a couple of boxes of papers and files to go through in the closet, but other than that it is done. So hopefully, I can get some of that done coming up this week.

If you are decluttering in 2017, how are you doing with it?

  2. Ha! I see the "Harry Potter" series in your bookcase! What a nice book collection. You have made huge strides in your decluttering. It looks great.
I love decluttering....I am odd that way. I love removing unwanted items from my home.

    1. Yes we do have the "Harry Potter" series, LOL. I will confess I haven't read them, but my husband has read them all multiple times.

  3. As I look around I have to say I'm not doing well in the decluttering process. As soon as I move to a new spot the old spot gets cluttered up again. I really need a tall bookcase as I see little piles of books everywhere! You, on the other hand, are doing great!

    1. Thanks Jane. I have tried to be extra careful about not cluttering up the areas I have decluttered. It is hard work, but I will have to say that I have maintained the decluttering in the closet of doom that I did in January!
