Halloween jack-o-lanterns 2017

Happy Halloween from us to you! Tonight we will be going trick or treating in the cold. Oh well. Better than the rain we had yesterday and the rain we are supposed to get the rest of the week.

On Sunday afternoon, we spent the afternoon carving pumpkins with the kids.

Each kid cleaned out their pumpkin insides. Ben kept saying it was gross. LOL

But they did a good job cleaning them out. Rebecca carved her own pumpkin. Ben and Jacob drew their designs on the pumpkin and then I cut them out for them.

Bill even got into the act and decided to make one. He wanted to make his look like Donald Trump-- the orange guy in office. This was not meant to be a compliment.

I think they turned out really cute!

So I hope you all have a very happy Halloween and get more treats than tricks!

Boys went bowling for the first time

This weekend, the kids were all invited to a birthday party for a child that I tutor. The party was at our local bowling alley. The boys have never been bowling before and they had a blast. Ben and Jacob bowled on a lane with the bumpers up. Rebecca got to bowl on a lane without bumpers.

After bowling there was cake with LOTS of icing. LOL

The kids had a blast and really enjoyed themselves. So, I guess I will have to make plans to take them bowling again.

Nature Scenery for October 29, 2017

Sunday is meant to be a day of rest and relaxation and one of the ways that I rest is to spend time in Nature. I try to spend a least a little bit of time in nature each week. I have decided that I will use Sundays to share the photos of my nature adventures each week just as a way to relax and share the beauty that is God's creation with all. I hope you enjoy!

Trying to find my fitness and healthy eating motivation

Halloween candy  is a pain in the drain this time of year, especially if you are trying to lose weight and are addicted to sugar like I am. I have fallen off the wagon when it comes to weight loss and eating better. So I have decided to try to get back on the wagon.

One of the first things that I do when I fall off the wagon is look for inspiration online and start making plans. I know that with Halloween coming up, I had to also take into account the Halloween candy that my kids will be bringing home (or that might magically jump into my grocery cart.)

So when I came across  #TeamAaptiv and their fun and convenient programs, I jumped at the chance to share this fun Halloween graphic with you guys.

Aaptiv is an audio fitness aap, that combines fitness with music. I know that I for one love to listen to music when exercising, especially when I have to workout inside with the upcoming cold weather.

If you are looking for an audio fitness app, there is a code at the bottom of the graphic for a chance to try it for free. Let me know if you try it out. I know that many of us are trying to lose weight, so maybe this can be a tool to use to help us out, especially if you are like me and tend to sneak your kids' Halloween candy!

As for me, I am busy making plans for what I need to do to get on track. I am committing to jump back on track. I am committing to walking again outside as long as it isn't raining or snowing as walking in nature really does help me feel better and helps me stay healthy. I am committing to trying to only eat 1 piece of candy each day and maybe if I do more, then I can use the Aaptiv app to burn those calories. I also am going to be using November to get back on track with carb cycling. That is the only thing that has worked for me in the past and so I need to do it again. This is just the beginning of getting back on track!

Kids' Costume Parade at School

Today the weather was beautiful during the day and that was great because the kids' school had their annual "fall character" parade... aka Halloween parade.

This year, Benjamin went as "Darth Vader." This is the second year in a row that he was Darth Vader. I found his outfit this year at Goodwill for $3.99. The mask was from last year (which we also found at Goodwill last year).

Jacob was Captain America. We found his costume "new in package" at Goodwill for $3.99 as well.

Rebecca wanted to be an angel this year. I think we spent about $10 at Goodwill for the different pieces of her costume.

I think they were cute! All the costumes of all the kids were very cute. It was a good way to kick off the weekend.

U-EartH Color Run 2017

This past weekend, I headed up to the Cleveland Ohio area with my mom and sister to take part in the U-EartH 2017 Art Therapy Studio Color Run, Walk and Roll race on Sunday morning.

My sister is a senior undergraduate at Ursuline College in their Art therapy program. She is also the President of U-EartH. So I had to show her some support AND I got to get away with my mom and sister for a girls' weekend--something we have never done before. U-Earth or Ursuline Endless art Healing (U-EartH) is a group of Ursuline College students dedicated to helping out the community through art.

We headed up to Pepper Pike on Saturday afternoon. We had some running around to do, so that Mary could get some gifts for her new girlfriend ( who was coming up later that night) for Sweetest Day. We also had to pick up her car from the shop.

After dropping stuff off at her dorm, we headed out to find some dinner. That was an adventure as the restaurant Mary wanted to go to was closed unexpectedly (we weren't the only people that were surprised when we got there.) Every other restaurant in the area was jammed pack. So we decided to head back towards campus and to go to "The Winking Lizard Tavern." (This was the same restaurant we took my sister to when we visited earlier in the year, so it is now a tradition to go!)

Food was good. I had a jerk chicken sandwich. It was really good. After we left the restaurant, we dropped my sister off at her dorm and we headed to the hotel.

Once at the hotel, we had to get warm as the room was freezing when we walked in. They had the air conditioner on and it was turned as low as it could go! We immediately turned the heat on! We decided to forgo the pool as there were hockey teams staying in the hotel and so tons of kids in the pool. There was a running joke all weekend that my sister was calling us old. Well, if old is lights out around 10:45 then I guess we are old! LOL

We were up early the next morning to head out to Ursuline's campus for check-in for the race and to see if my sister needed any help (which she didn't). After checking in we headed out to McDonald's to grab some breakfast and then back to campus.

The race was supposed to start at 10, but didn't kick off until 10:30. My mom, who has heart problems, only did a small portion of the course with me. I did the whole course (walking it). The course was all around the campus, so it was a very pretty walk.

After the race was done, we went onto the quad for the little art festival they were having.

My sister wanted to paint my face so I let her. You only live once right? LOL

After everything was wrapped up around 2, we decided to head out and get something to eat before mom and I had to head home. Mary suggested we go to Piada which she described as a "Chipotle but with pasta." I was pretty skeptical as I don't like Chipotle but we knew it would make Mary happy to go there so we did. Their food was really good. I got a diavolo pasta, which had some heat to it but was yummy.

Then we headed over to a cupcake place that didn't have much to offer. So we decided to head over to Menchie's Frozen Yogurt for dessert. It was super yummy! I had cheesecake frozen yogurt and Nutella frozen yogurt, topped with fresh strawberries, maraschino cherries, chocolate chips, and cheesecake pieces. It was super yummy!

Then it was time to say goodbye to my sister and drop her back off at her dorm. Then my mom and I headed back to Mount Vernon.

It was a fun, relaxing weekend. I love spending time with my mom and sister. We are talking about making this a tradition... so we can continue our escapades!
