Remember the Ladies by Callista Gingrich

BOOK DESCRIPTION:::
Ellis the Elephant is headed back to the White House! In Remember the Ladies, the seventh in Callista Gingrich's New York Times bestselling series, Ellis meets some of America's greatest first ladies and discovers their many contributions to American history.

In preceding books, including Sweet Land of Liberty, Land of the Pilgrims' Pride, Yankee Doodle Dandy, From Sea to Shining Sea, Christmas in America, and Hail to the Chief, Ellis learns about the pivotal moments that have shaped our nation. Now, in Remember the Ladies, this adorable pachyderm explores the fascinating lives of our first ladies.

Authored by Callista Gingrich and illustrated by Susan Arciero, Remember the Ladies will delight young and old alike with a look at the first ladies who helped make America an exceptional nation.

MY THOUGHTS:::

I am the mom of a strong-willed, smart, incredible daughter. I want her to be able to know that there are women who have been instrumental in the history of our country. So many books and textbooks showcase the lives of our nation's presidents, however most don't give anything but a passing mention to the First Ladies. So I was excited to see that Callista Gingrich is addressing this lack of information in her newest book in her Ellis the Elephant series.

Remember the Ladies is a wonderful resource of information about past First Ladies that offers a glimpse into their accomplishments written in a poetry format that allows them to come to life for children to enjoy. I would also say that adults could learn some new things about the former First Ladies in this book. One example is that I never knew that Nellie Taft was the first Lady who oversaw the planting of the famous cherry trees in Washington D.C.

The illustrations in the book, by Susan Arciero, are lovely and delightful and add an air of elegance but in a way that kids can relate to.

Speaking of kids, I couldn't do this review without seeing what the target audience would think about the book. I read it to my 8 and 5 year old sons. My almost 11 year old daughter read it to herself. They all loved the book. Jacob and Rebecca loved the facts that they learned and Ben loved the elephant illustrations. So they approve!

Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a way to teach how our first ladies have been very influential throughout history.
