So Bill and I have decided that we have both become complacent with our diets and weights. We are eating too much, snacking too much, making bad food choices, and not moving enough.
Well, we both need some motivation to get moving and lose some weight. We are going on vacation in July to the beach, so I definitely do not want to be as heavy as I am now when we go. We are also supposed to meet up in real life with a friend of mine from Australia that I have known for close to 8 years at the same time so I want to look my best.
So we started our diet on Monday. I will admit I cringed and almost cried when I stepped on the scale and saw the number. I am so ashamed. I am at my heaviest that I have been, except when I was pregnant. Not good. (I haven't decided if I am sharing my weight number on here or not!....)
Basically, the diet follows that whomever loses the most weight (percentage wise) by July wins. Now if my husband wins, he gets to bring home a hermit crab from the beach for a pet. I HATE those things. I think they are freaky and although he has wanted one for years, there is NO WAY he is going to win and get one.
This is where I need your advice....I don't know what I will get if I win. I need some suggestions, please! I am at a complete loss. Can you help me out?

What's for dinner this week? (The Diet starts NOW edition!)
One of the things that I want to do in 2016 is to plan our dinner
menus weekly and post them here for accountability.Breakfasts are
usually yogurt and fruit or cereal and fruit for the kids and Bill and I
find whatever we are in the mood for. Lunch is usually something quick
for Benjamin (chicken nuggets, corn dog, PB and J) with fruit and
leftovers for Bill and I. During the school year, Rebecca and Jacob get
free lunch at their school. That leaves dinner for the family....
I started menu planning at the beginning of the year and I will say that with a few exceptions, it has worked!
Hopefully, I will be able to stick to this plan and can report back success next week!

HOW DID WE DO LAST WEEK???
MONDAY::: Chicken and cheese casserole and green beans-- YES
TUESDAY::: Cheeseburgers and steak fries--- YES
WEDNESDAY::: Cajun chicken, julienne potatoes, peas-- YES
THURSDAY::: Spaghetti with meat sauce-- NOPE...we went out to eat at Bob Evans instead. It was a day of dealing with an appointment for Jacob and I just felt like we needed to get out.
FRIDAY::: Fish, macaroni and cheese, and broccoli-- NOPE... I just wasn't feeling it today, so I ordered Pizza Hut pizza :(
SATURDAY::: Waffles, sausage, bacon, fruit--- NOPE, however I did make the spaghetti that was supposed to be Thursday
SUNDAY::: Homemade pizza (maybe date night??) -- NOPE but I did make the waffles, bacon and fruit that was supposed to happen Saturday.
So this past week started out well, and then went down the tubes. I don't know what went wrong, I was battling major depression, we were all fighting head colds again, stress about Jacob's doctor's appointments and just overall not feeling it.
THAT BEING SAID, IT IS TIME TO GET BACK ON TRACK. HUBBY AND I ARE COMPETING IN A WEIGHT-LOSS COMPETITION WITH EACH OTHER (which I will talk about later today or tomorrow), SO THE DIET STARTS NOW. WE HAVE BEEN EATING LIKE CRAP AND THAT NEEDS TO STOP AS THAT IS NOT HELPING OUR DISPOSITIONS.

So there you have it for this upcoming week. It is time to get back on track and eat better. When I eat better I feel better overall and I don't get quite as depressed and anxious.
Hopefully, I will be able to stick to this plan and can report back success next week!

Then: Chocolate Lasagna
Both have become family favorites of ours and I am happy to share the recipes! Enjoy!

Valentine's Day, Snow, and headcolds
We had a lovely Valentine's Day around here. Saturday night after the kids went to bed, I set out their Valentine's Day trinkets on our kitchen table for them to find in the morning. We got Rebecca a pair of Valentine's socks and a Reese's pieces tube. Jacob got a pack of football cards and a Reese's pieces tube. And we got Benjamin a Thomas the Train puzzle and a Reese's pieces tube. I also laid out Bill's card in which I stuck a Snickers Peanut Butter candy bar and a Dove dark chocolate bar.
The plan was for me to get up early and make cinnamon rolls in the shape of hearts before we had to head to PSR and church. Well, I set my alarm and went to bed. I got up at 7 to make the rolls only to find that my dear hubby had brought home donuts for everyone for breakfast, so back to bed for about an hour more of sleep.
We had a lovely laid back day. My dear husband got me a sappy card and a box of Lindor chocolates which are my favorite! We got the kids McDonald's for lunch and then just kind of hung out all afternoon just relaxing. For dinner, I let the kids make their own pizzas.
After they ate, I made Bill and I a special Valentine's dinner of grilled steak, baked potato, and asparagus for Bill and green beans for me. While we ate our dinner, the kids watched their last Valentine's surprise- "Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown" dvd.
After everyone had dinner, we had our special dessert--- CHOCOLATE LASAGNA!!! Well, everyone except Rebecca, who started complaining that she didn't feel good. She had a low grade fever. We have all been fighting off a head cold the last few days and it is hitting her the hardest. Even this morning, she still has a fever and just feels blah.
This morning, we woke up to a fresh blanket of several inches of snow that had fallen overnight. School was cancelled for today, which is just fine with me so that we can just rest and hopefully fight off these cold germs. It was really pretty to look at. I did go out and shovel our steps for the mailman, but other than that I hope to get to stay home today.
So that is what is up in my world. Dealing with everyone in our house having a head cold, snowy days and just trying to get things done.

THURSDAY::: Taco boats, mexican rice, and corn-- YES, the kids had taco boats and corn, Bill and I had date night.
FRIDAY::: Fish, macaroni and cheese and peas-- YES
SATURDAY:::Whole chicken in the crockpot, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans-- YES
SUNDAY::: This is Valentine's Day. We will NOT be going back but I will cook my dear husband a steak dinner at home! Steak, baked potato, asparagus and salad. I will probably do chicken nuggets and french fries for the kiddos as that is their favorites! :) -- YES and NO...I made steak, baked potato and asparagus for hubby. I made the same for me, but with green beans instead of the asparagus as I can't stand asparagus. I let the kids make their own homemade pizzas. They loved it!
So overall, a GREAT week of menu planning! Going forward in the next week (possibly 2), I am going to be trying to use up what we have in our upright freezer as I need to defrost it. That should keep our grocery bills lower as well! So with that ideology going on....
I tend to make our menus out on Sunday night to go from Monday to Sunday. I usually go to the grocery store one day during the week (usually Wednesday but sometimes another day). For this week's menu, I need pepperoni for the pizzas on Sunday.
Hopefully, I will be able to stick to this plan and can report back success next week!

What am I giving up for Lent?
![]() |
| Source |
I have been giving up things for Lent as long as I can remember. Being raised in the Catholic Church, I was encouraged from a young age to give something up...growing up it was usually sweets. Even now, I try to give something up for Lent and I encourage my kids to also give something up.
SO WHAT AM I GIVING UP FOR LENT THIS YEAR?
This year, I am giving up drinking pop. I have gotten into a really bad habit of drinking a lot of pop again and I know it is not good for my overall health. I will be replacing pop with water. My husband is also giving up drinking pop. It is going to be a hard sacrifice for both of us, but will be worth it in the end.
I am also going to vow to exercise at least 20 minutes every day during Lent. I have let me weight and overall health go by the wayside and now is the time to get back into the habit of exercising and working on becoming a better me. I will do this either by walking the kids to and from school (when the weather allows), working out on the Wii, or working out to an exercise dvd. I own a couple and I can always get more at the library.
I hope by doing these 2 things that I will feel more in control of who I am physically and will feel better overall, while reminding myself that my body is a precious gift and I need to take care of it.
Do you give up anything for Lent?

FRIDAY::: Pizza-- We actually had pizza rollups and mandarin oranges, so still pizza-y :)

SUNDAY::: This is Super Bowl Sunday which is a National Holiday according to my dear hubby. I will make him chicken wings and am not sure what I am going to make the kids and I yet. -- I made chicken wings, loaded french fries, and and chicken nuggets.
So overall, a much better week than the week before when we were all sick! I also managed to clean out and organize the freezer and the refrigerator and now I know exactly what I have and what I can fix . Hopefully, this coming week is just as good as last week....
