Akron Rubber Ducks, Fireworks and a Disappointing Hotel Stay

Happy Monday! Anyone else kind of dragging today? I am. Rebecca even told me this morning that I looked very tired. I am kind of dragging as, like I mentioned in my Saturday posting, we had a busy Saturday night and Sunday. I took the opportunity of Bill having a rare weekend day off to plan some family fun. We decided to take the kids to Akron for a quick 24 hour giveaway.

Bill had to work until 4 on Saturday, but we hit the road shortly after he got home. We had to be in Akron by 7 so that we wouldn't miss the first pitch of the Akron Rubber Ducks baseball game! Well, we got to Akron around 6, parked at the parking garage right across from the stadium (which apparently had free parking for the evening. Not sure if it was because it was a holiday weekend, but I'll take free parking!) and were in our seats by 6:15.

Bill and Rebecca and Jacob went to get food...I was good and had a hot dog with mustard and about 1/8 of a bag of peanuts and water. Ben and I stayed in our seats and watched the players warming up while we waited for the food.

The kids were excited because the Cleveland Indians' starting pitcher Zach Plesac was starting for the Rubber Ducks on a rehab assignment.

It was a great game, with a couple home runs, stolen bases, great defensive plays, etc. The atmosphere of minor league games is energetic and very family friendly!

It was nice to be in a ballpark again. The only signs that things were different due to COVID that we noticed was there were only about 3 concession vendors that came down the aisles versus many more when we were there 2 years ago. Other than that it seemed like everything was back to normal for the most part.

And, the Rubber Ducks pulled off the win!

After the game, they had a fireworks show set to music by the Zac Brown Band. The boys loved the fireworks.

After we left the stadium, we headed to our hotel. We were staying in the same hotel we stayed at 2 years ago. Well, that was a mistake. It has gone down hill in a lot of ways. When I tried to turn on the TV, it was full of static and kept shutting down. Bill tried to unplug it and turn it it back on and same thing. He called down to the front desk and she said well most people just unplug it and plug it back in. She said maintenance would be over an hour to come up (now mind you it is 11 at night) or we could switch rooms, but it would be 15-20 minutes before she could figure it out. Well in the next 10 minutes, Bill got the TV working and we decided to stay in our room. He called down to the front desk and she was snarky with him. The beds were hard as rocks. There was stains on the ceiling in a couple of places and the bathroom had paint chipping in several spots on the door. We knew going in that the pool was closed due to COVID so that wasn't a huge deal. However, we were told they had their complete breakfast open. Well... if you call having rice chex cereal, a prepacked muffin, and english muffins, bananas, and individual fruit cups of tropical fruit being available for self-serve as fully open. They did have sausage gravy and biscuit, yogurt, milk and juice available however you had to ask the attendant who was more worried about why the fireplace was on than helping get milk, etc. You also had to ask her for spoons and knives for the cereal and muffins. Also, she had the movie "The Mummy" playing on the huge TV in the dining area where there were multiple families with kids trying to get their kids breakfast.  Oh, well. We live and learn. If we ever need to stay in Akron again we will be finding a new hotel.

We left the hotel on the 4th eager to head to our next adventure which was the Akron Zoo. I will blog about that tomorrow or Wednesday as this post has gotten long and I still need to go through the photos that I took... So I am going to end this here for today. Did you have a good weekend?
