Camps, Ice Cream, and More

Happy Sunday! Hope everyone is having a great day so far. Today has been busy.

Who am I kidding? Life has been busy.

I think a friend of a friend said it perfectly on Facebook--- The pandemic is not over, this is just a lull between pandemic 1 and pandemic 2 (the variants); however as moms we are trying so hard to get out and do things so that if/when the next lockdown happens we will feel like we had a break. I totally agree with that sentiment, and so life has been busy.

This past week Ben had a morning day camp at a local university. He took the camp class on Geology. He was super excited and learned things about geodes, fossils, identifying rocks, etc. He had a lot of fun each day and came home each afternoon telling us all about it!

The kids and I met up with a friend and her daughter and son for ice cream. We all had fun catching up. We hadn't gotten together in 2 years.

Bill and I celebrated our 16th anniversary. Life hasn't been all sunshine and rainbows but here we are. We celebrated by getting food from a couple food trucks that were in town. We got gyros from one and woodfired pizza nachos from another. My shawarma chicken gyro was really good! Bill also got me 4 beeswax candles from a local artist coop as the traditional gift for the 16th wedding anniversary is wax.

Yesterday, I spent the day packing for camp for Jacob and Rebecca. They are attending Catholic camp this week. Rebecca was excited as she went last year and LOVED it. This year she is on the high school side!! Jacob was nervous as this will be his first sleep away camp away from home without mom or dad there. He seemed excited today though when I dropped him off. I hope that they both have a wonderful time.

Ben has been quite upset all day as he really misses his brother and sister. To soften the blow of dropping his siblings off, I took him to get ice cream for National Ice Cream day today! Then he got to pick out dinner and he wanted to go to Wendy's and eat in the restaurant so that he could pick his own drink. LOL

Tonight he is watching The Lego Movie and just hanging out. We have another busy week ahead. I can't believe we are nearing the end of July already. The kids just have a couple weeks left until they head back to school. Time is flying, but we are trying to have fun!

What about you? Did anyone celebrate National Ice-Cream day today? Did you ever go to summer camp? Any fun plans this week?

  1. I want to go to Geology Camp!!! That sounds like so much fun. I forgot it was National Ice Cream Day. I think we celebrated that all last week. I went to 4-H camp in Mississippi, right on the Gulf when I was eight and loved it. Then, I went to church camp from the time I was eleven until I was seventeen. Then, I was a camp counselor. I held a craft camp in my late thirties--just a week of doing crafts at the civic center. I always had fun.

  2. Hope the kids have a wonderful time at camp! My kids have been to sleepaway camp & absolutely loved it. They would have gone this summer, but due to COVID, had to limit numbers & dropped the teen version of the camp. The kids were bummed, as they were both really looking forward to it.

    1. That is too bad about their camp this summer. I am thankful that Rebecca and Jacob were able to go. This camp is the same that Rebecca went to last year, but this year she is on the high school side. This will be Jacob's 1st sleep away camp as the 5th grade sleep away camp that he would have gone to with school was changed to day camp this year due to COVID.

  3. I hope the camp experience is wonderful for Jacob. I know the first time can feel a little daunting.
Ben, I hope you have a wonderful time being "the only" for the week!
We did celebrate National Ice Cream Day kind of. I have only bought Rebel ice cream which is a no sugar "almost" ice cream.

    1. Ben has had fun being spoiled this week. He got to plan the menu for each day, having extra movie nights, he even got to go to our local science play center with his dad.
Is the Rebel ice cream good? I have thought about buying a container for me when I am craving ice cream as it seems like it would fit in my diet plan but wasn't sure if the taste was good or not.

  4. Geology camp sounds amazing! I guarantee rocks will not be looked at the same way again :-) My boys both did week long camps when they were younger and they are some of their best summer memories.

  5. I did not know wax was an anniversary year-intersting to know. 16 was so many years ago! I ws just thinking my daughter only has four more week so her summer job, a week break, then moving back to college, though an apartment and classes star August 26th. I don't see the appetite for more lock downs/stay at home. Even MN who was so conservative ended the Peacetime Emergency. I just hope this hsna't been for nothing as now more young people are impacted.

    1. I am not sure what is going to happen. However, here in Ohio our numbers are rising rapidly and even our school district just sent out a warning that there is the possibility that we will have to go hybrid or full online learning at some point, even though they don't want to. I guess I just want to be prepared. I think once schools start back and colleges start back we shall see what happens.
