Rain, kids stuff, new recipe, and a 3 mile walk

Happy Saturday! How are you all on this Saturday? I am just relaxing today after a fairly busy week.

Before we get into that and for posterity sake here are the current numbers for Ohio: Last week Ohio was at 25,349 cases, 1,431 deaths, and 21 confirmed cases in my county. As of today, Ohio is now at 28,758 cases, 1,691 deaths and 23 confirmed cases in our county. One of those cases is my Aunt Nellie-- my mom's older sister. She was diagnosed 2 weeks ago and was back in the hospital this week were she tested positive again. She has been sick for the last 3 weeks but is now recuperating at home once again. I have a feeling the numbers are going to spike in the next couple weeks as more and more things are opening up. Retail stores were allowed to open Friday, campgrounds opened this weekend, and restaurants were allowed to open Friday for dine in as well. It is what it is and will be what it will be. As for me and mine, we are going to live our life taking the precautions that we feel are necessary and making the best of our current situations.

This past week we did some things despite RAIN everyday! Seriously we had a ton of rain, enough that there was some flooding and other issues.

My rainy view EVERY day this week!

What else has been going on this week...

I babysat this week for Miss A. Unfortunately I won't have her for the near future as her parents company announced on Thursday they were going back on shut-down for at least a week as they just didn't have the business. The kids, especially Ben, enjoyed having her here though.

Wednesday I was sick all day. I ate some microgreens the night before with dinner and they did not agree with me at all. This is the second time I have eaten them and the second time that my body has reacted with adverse effects. (The first time was a few years ago on one of my health kicks.) I was in and out of the bathroom ALL day Wednesday and just did not feel good. Thankfully Thursday I felt a little better and yesterday I was back to normal. I am also thankful that Bill took charge on Wednesday and got the kids dinner and cleaned up so that I could sleep.

The kids didn't have any school work this week as they had stayed caught up with their distance learning. I had to return the boys' Chromebooks to their school earlier in the week. The last day they had them I let them play "Cool Math" on them and all 3 of the kids decided to play at the same time and they were getting along!

Getting along!

Rebecca has been working on the cake decorating badge for her AHG troop. She made a homemade cream cheese icing to go on a rutabaga cake and decorated it. She is going to make a tiered cake this weekend for her dad's birthday.

Made homemade cream cheese icing.

Finished cake

Rebecca also got a nice e-mail from her Social Studies teacher who said that she was awarding her the "Mother Teresa" Award for the kindness and empathy that she had shown in school.

Proud of her

I made a new recipe for dinner on Thursday night. They were for copycat Chick-fil-A sandwiches. I wanted to make this recipe for Homemade Baked Chick-fil-A Sandwiches because it called for baking the chicken and not frying. OH MY WORD, it was DELICIOUS!! The chicken was so moist and flavorful. I will definitely be making it again!

My yummy sandwich

Yesterday, the sun FINALLY came out and we took a nice 3 mile walk on the Kokosing Gap Trail. We hadn't walked on this part of the trail since last winter. Everything was so green and pretty! The river was running really high and fast. It felt so good to get a long walk in. We saw lots of chipmunks, several cardinals, a catbird (we had never seen one before), and a hawk and heard several other birds.

Just in case we forgot...

There used to be a road across this. Apparently it washed out over the winter.

Today, I have folded a couple loads of laundry and watched a couple movies on Disney+ (We watched "The Little Mermaid Live," "Finding Nemo" and are now watching "The Jungle Book") as we are just relaxing. Later we might go get Bill some carry-out wings from "Roosters" for an early birthday treat. Not really sure what else we are doing this weekend. It is supposed to really warm up this week and have high humidity so we might try to get another walk in this weekend. I also need to make a grocery list and menu for this week. Another thing I would like to do is make a list of all the hiking trails and nature parks in our area so that we can try to maybe hit them all this Summer (since we can't do much of anything else.)

What are you up to this weekend? What's the weather been like where you are? Whatever you are doing, have a great weekend everyone!

  1. I'm sorry you were un well-that does not sound like just a bug-too much of a coincidence to happen twice. Well done to Rebecca. The hike pictures are very nice.

    1. That was my thinking too. No one else in the family got sick and they ate them just fine. I will just have to watch what I eat greens wise from now on.

  2. Where did you get the microgreens? Grow them yourself? I love the cake she decorated! Good job. And, the award! It is too bad they cannot keep their chrome books for further study, but I suppose they are tired of school. I wish I could walk 3 miles or even 30 feet.

    1. They were from a farm share that I get every week. I don't have a yard to grow anything so... I have suspended it for the summer though and will take that money to a local farm market to get things that we can eat (and avoid the microgreens! LOL) The elementary school collected them so they can be cleaned and stored over the summer. Rebecca has hers but they are disabling them early next month from the main office so I will put it up somewhere safe. The kids will be doing some schooling stuff over the summer but it will be more writing and limited computer time on my laptop. I don't take walking for granted. It really helps my mood.

  3. Sorry the microgreens didn't agree with you. At least you know now to watch out for them. Aren't catbirds neat looking? Once in a rare while, one will stop by our yard. It's on my list to get a picture of one at some time.
