Thankful for Sunshine and Modern Medicine

There is a virus raging out in the world. The divide over even the most minute details about reopening versus not reopening are becoming deeper and deeper. Things are going from bad to worst. The news and social media are all doom and gloom. Today I wke up not feeling well with some stomach pains and just feeling blah overall. I can continue to focus on the negative or I can try to refocus and focus on the positive and things to be thankful for- thus this post.

So today I am thankful for 2 big things in particular! One is beautiful sunshine and nice hiking with the family! The other is modern medicine and doctors who care.

First I am thankful for sunshine and nice hiking times with the family. Today it is raining out but yesterday the weather was BEAUTIFUL! It was ☀🌞☀🌞 and just the right temperature (66 degrees) with just a slight breeze every so often. Just perfect for taking a hike at the Brown Family Environmental Center. We say tons of birds, lots of tadpoles, our first frogs of the year, and lots of beautiful scenery.

Also, today I am thankful for modern medicine. Exactly one year ago today, Benjamin was admitted to Children's Hospital with swelling and extremely high blood pressures. Thankfully the nephrology department at Children's was wonderful in trying to figure out what was going on. When Ben was released from the hospital, he was on three different blood pressure medicines and we had to take his blood pressures twice a day at home. His nephrologist was hopeful that we could wean him off the medicines in 2-3 months after he was released. Well, Ben's blood pressures decided not to cooperate and we are still on medicine a year later (now he is on one 2ml dose of one medicine a day) and daily blood pressure monitoring. However, this morning after talking with the doctor, we are to stop his medicines all together and monitor his blood pressure for the next month as his readings have been in the normal range for the past month! (This showed up in my Facebook memories today!)

Please keep storming Heaven with prayers. We have spent all day at the hospital with Benjamin. Long story short, Ben has been admitted to Children's Hospital wi...

So, now I am off to do schoolwork with the boys, so my final thankfulness for today is that we only have 1 more day of schoolwork for the year!! I am so ready and so are the kids!

What are you thankful for today?

  1. Air conditioning, modern medicine flowers make my life better. Did your son have kidney disease? My brother had nephritis and swelled.

    1. To make a long story short Ben had an infection that decided to attack his kidneys. His official diagnosis was post infectious glomerulonephritis. I blogged about it last year. If you want you can read about it here https://livingbetteronedayatatime.blogspot.com/2019/05/ben-was-in-hospital.html

  2. I am so pleased for Ben and for you! I honestly don't know what is right-reopening,and risking more spread, or letting the virus spread, build immunity, while ensuring those with risk factors get the needed care. the latter seems like making folks guinea pigs and feels absolutely heartless. I just don't know.

    1. I think that the not knowing what is right is what is causing a lot of the dissention.

  3. Kinda sunshine (somewhat overcast), my garden, friends, people who are helping (frontline workers,), people who show kindness.

In some states, where the virus is low, I would b3 uncertain about the right thing to do. In my state (NJ), I am sure we should stay closed. There has been improvement, but IMO not enough.

    1. I am not sure what the right answer is. It seems like Ohio is opening at warp speed after we were told that opening would be slow and steady. Not sure what is right or wrong.

  4. I am thrilled for Ben that he can stop taking the meds.
Sunshine is a wonderful gift. It does revitalize us__until July and August in the south and then it just beats the crap out of us!

    1. I agree about July and August. I love the sunshine but not the humidity and thickness of the air that Summer and late Summer seems to bring.

  5. I love the sunshine! When it's cloudy, even our pets are moody. It makes a world of difference. So glad Ben can get off his meds. That's awesome news!
