Happy Tuesday everyone! Today I have decided to join in with Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 hosted by Annie!
1. What gave you the most fun in summer as a kid or as an adult?
Well, summers as a kid meant riding bikes around the neighborhood, getting freeze pops from the corner store and playing outside from after breakfast until it got too dark to see. I loved riding my bike with my dad and brother to the governor's mansion in Ohio and then down to the library to get books to get lost in (Babysitter Club books were a favorite!). We really didn't take any vacations until I was older, but I remember that first time we went to the ocean, we went to Lewes, Delaware because my dad read about it in a magazine as being an inexpensive place to see the ocean.
Now as an adult, I have a love/hate relationship with summer. I love Summer because it means we can do things with the kids. I hate summer due to the lack of routine at times and the heat!
2. Does summer heat get to you? How do you cope?
It is funny, the heat used to not really get to me. Did I like it? No, but I could deal with it. Now, I can't deal with humidity at all and heat is awful for me. I tend to want to stay in the air conditioning or in front of a fan or both.
3. Do you have summertime foods and drinks you really enjoy eating? Does your menu change in summer?
We eat more salads in the summer for our main course. I tend to not make heavy meals, but lighter ones like hot dogs, chips and fruit or subs and raw veggies. I really only eat ice cream in the summer, unlike my husband and kids who would eat it year round. I love going to local ice cream shops. In fact, yesterday the kids and I met up with a friend and her kids for our annual after school is out ice cream date!
4. Do you enjoy sitting outside or on the porch in summertime? How about some photos of where you enjoy being in summer.
I do enjoy sitting outside on a porch or deck as long as there is some shade and a nice breeze. If it is hot and humid, not so much. I don't mind sitting on the deck of my parent's house in their backyard as it looks toward woods. My all time favorite place to spend time outside in the summer is the beach of Emerald Isle, North Carolina. I am only lucky enough to go every few years but it is by far my favorite place to sit outside.
I think of the summer pool, both as a kid and then with my kids, at least during the week. Freezers and bikes too!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading your post! For me, there's just something about the freedom of summer even if I still have obligations here and there. I love being able to just run out the door without worrying about hats/gloves/coats and of course, the flowers that are blooming everywhere. Happy Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteLoved this, my friend. Both your memories, and your current summer favorites. That ice cream looks absolutely delicious!!!! Enjoy!
ReplyDelete1. Growing up, we lived walking distance to a beautiful lake. My neighbors and I would walk there to spend the entire day.
ReplyDelete2. We don't have summer hear here in the PNW. For the two days every three years we hit 90 degrees, we run the a.c. Growing up in New England, the heat, well, the humidity, was miserable, and, of course, nothing there is air conditioned. I was miserable at night in the summer. When I lived in the Southwest, we had a.c., as well a pool, and in my Florida place, we had a.c., a neighborhood pool, and were less than 1 mile from the beach. I like the heat OUTDOORS, but need it cool to get anything even resembling a good night's sleep.
3. I don't really have summertime favorites--there's really no need for summer foods here, as it's so mild. I do like the odd cold pasta salad.
4. I LOVE to sit outside--here it's on my back patio waiting for the owls, bats and deer to arrive. In FL it was under the ceiling fan on our porch, smelling the salt air, and in the Southwest, we'd sit by our pool.
Riding my bike was my greatest joy as a child and an adult. Well, anything with my children topped bike riding. I stay in the ac. Growing up, I did not have ac. We took a nap in the heat of the day and slept on a sheet on the wood floors since that was cooler than being on a mattress in bed. I love chicken so summer food includes chicken, maybe even cold. I like watermelon and other fruits, maybe even in a smoothie. I loved sitting outdoors in summer except for mosquitoes. I have been longing for a porch at Tommy's house. Then, I wanted a screened in porch. Now, I just want an enclosed porch with lots of windows and ac. Yes, age has caught up with me since being in the heat drains me to the point of exhaustion.
