My 6 goals for 2021: Week 2 of 52

Happy Sunday everyone! Hope your day is going well. Ours has been somewhat eventful. The sun is actually out and we wanted to take advantage of that so we decided to go take a walk on the bike path. I chose to go to the portion that also has an attached playground so that the boys could play. Well, we walked our 2 miles and the kids were playing, when Ben went to go under a part of the playground equipment to get away from being tagged and he slammed his head on the bar. By the time he came around the other side of the slide there was blood gushing down his face. Thankfully it looks to only be a small cut but man head wounds bleed a ton. We were able to get the bleeding stopped and are keeping an eye on him. He was so scared. It was not a sight I want to see again any time soon.

*Updated around 5PM: Bill took Ben to Urgent Care as there was still one spot that was still bleeding a little. 7 staples later... it was a much larger gash than we thought. The blood in his hair had hidden the true length of the gash. :(

We are keeping the rest of today low key. I thought I would hope on here and do a quick update on how I am doing on my goals.

So my 6 goals for 2021 were:

Lose weight.

I plan on achieving this by making a monthly goal to help. January's goals are to limit myself to one pop a day and to exercise/ walk 4 times a week. Ideally I would like to walk, however it is January in Ohio so weather will be a factor.

I did well with the walking this week. I ended up walking on Saturday the 2nd, walked the boys to school each day and walked them home from school on Friday. I ended up walking a total of 12.43 miles. I have also been doing well with limiting the pop. I have been drinking one Dr. Pepper with lunch and then drinking water the rest of the time. Yesterday I did have more than one Dr. Pepper as for some reason my stress level yesterday and today have been high for whatever reason. I did forget to weigh myself this morning so that will be put off until tomorrow.

Declutter our house.

It has become messy and full of stuff again. I am not sure how it got so full of stuff again. I am going to follow along with a 52 week decluttering challenge from "Snail Pace Transformations" blog. The author also has a Facebook page that is offering the challenge titled "Snail Pace Clutter Removers."

I haven't really been able to do much of anything with this goal. I did clean Rebecca's room and got rid of a huge bag of trash out of her room. I also repurposed a cubby shelf (that had originally been in her room but then had been put in the basement that I brought back up to her room) to house all of her art supplies as that is her passion. It also gave a place to put her record player that she received for Christmas and her cd player.

Menu Plan, follow it, and blog about it.

This month I am doing a low spend challenge and am pledging to use up what we have in our big freezer so that I can defrost it. I also made up a monthly meal plan and will blog about it this week. I want to make this a weekly post.

I did well with the goal this week. I started a new blog post called "Foodie Friday: What are we eating around here?" which I will be posting on Fridays.

Be more creative.

I am wanting to do this for a stress relief more than anything. I got 2 sloth coloring books for Christmas and would like to get in the habit of coloring. I also would like to get back into painting a bit. This could also look like making new recipes in the kitchen, etc.

I tried to be more intentional with taking time to relax most evenings. A few evenings I colored in my sloth coloring book. Other evenings, I watched an episode of The Mandalorian with Bill.

Be Grateful.

I love Anne's postings of her daily joys that she was doing weekly on her blog "Cooking and All that Jazz." I have a dollar store planner that I plan on putting by my bed and each night recording at least 1 things each day that I am grateful for.

I have been pretty good about doing this. Some of the things I have been grateful for this week include foot rubs, being able to help friends, and having a good dinner with family friends.

Show Grace.

And finally, I have chosen a word for the year....GRACE.  I would like to offer grace to others and to myself. I find at times I have a temper and get annoyed at little things. I would like to take a step back, offer grace to others and move on. I have tried to put this into practice the last 2 weeks and I have noticed a difference in my mental state.

Still working on this one. There were a few times that I had to take a few extra deep breaths and I chose not to be negative or nagging in certain situations. I am trying.

So there you have it. My first goals update for 2021.

I think I am doing pretty good so far.

Did you make goals/resolutions/a list of to-dos for 2021? If so, how are you doing?

  3. Yikes! That's a lot of excitement, glad he's okay. Head wounds are scary enough without the blood, add in the blood and oh man, I hope you get to relax a lot tonight. Sounds like you're doing amazing with your goals. I've decided with my word of less for the year, to just focus on one thing at a time so this month is getting back to eating healthier and adding in the vegetables. Hope you have a great new week!

  4. My health is my main goal which mainly means losing weight. That was quite a whack he got! I am glad you got it taken care of earlier instead of at night.

    1. It was a huge whack and a lot worse than I thought. I am thankful that my hubby was with me since we also had to calm the other 2 kids.

    1. Sorry I did not mention Ben's head. I have been going through Mom's old photos of my kids and it is hard to find one of Son2 when he did not have either stitches or a butterfly bandage holding something together., The other two sons had at least a few pictures without injuries. I guess I just expect mishaps with active sons.

    2. Thanks Anne. We have been pretty lucky that this is the first need for staples. I always said Ben was going to be the one that would make me go gray! LOL

  6. Sorry about Ben! I was pretty lucky with my 3 kids- never a stich or staple but two of them did have concussions from falls. My sis slipped on a throw rug December 30th and hurt her shoulder. After almost a week with not much improvement, she decided to get it x-rayed and she broke her humerus which is the bone from elbow to shoulder. She doesn't want surgery so the orthopedist is giving her a week and then will re-scan and see if she can just get by with a sling. She and I both avoid doctors if we can. I am just trying to walk more and eat less and plant based. So far it's going well and I'm not hungry but I sure do think about food a lot! We both need to hang in there.

    1. Your poor sis. I hope that she can by with a sling. This is our first set of staples in the kids and hopefully the last. I also avoid doctors if I can get away with it. That is great that your walking more and eating better is going well for you!

  7. Oh goodness! Poor guy and mom and dad, what a scare. Your house gets messy because you have five people living in it, and three are children, and two are busy parents! You are doing great. I have no reasons for my clutter.
