Amish Country weekend: Day 1

On Friday we headed up to Amish Country after "A" got picked up. We were going on a little weekend getaway with the kids. We ended up staying in Berlin at a really nice Comfort Suites. The room we had was spacious with cathedral ceilings. It was in the newer part of the hotel. (When I look at hotels, I try to find ones that will accommodate all 5 of us, that have a free breakfast, and an indoor pool. I also look at ratings, etc.)

The hotel was within walking distance to a bunch of shops, etc. So after checking in we decided to head out and get something to eat.
Friday night is typically pizza night in our house so we decided to try out East of Chicago Pizza for dinner. This is a chain restaurant and we typically do not eat at chain places when out of town, but we do make an exception if we don't have one in our area. We do not. We ended up getting the buffet and it was pretty good. I was happy to get a salad!

After dinner, we headed out to explore a little bit. We stopped in at a highly recommended shop--- Main Street Fudge and Popcorn Company shop. This was a neat shop with TONS of flavors of popcorn and fudge. We ended up getting some sample bags of different popcorn flavors to try as a snack. I got birthday cake flavor-- it was really good. Rebecca got cheddar and sour cream (it was okay-just tasted like cheddar popcorn). Jacob got chocolate and Ben got banana flavor. They were just okay. Bill got his crickettes (yes these are crickets that are flavored and sold as a treat) which has become a tradition for him to get when we are out of town.

Then it was time to head back to the hotel and check out the pool. Well, everyone else had the same idea as the pool was PACKED. But the kids had a good time and that is what mattered.

After swimming, it was time to head back to the room for a snack and to head to bed as we were heading out early the next morning for a fun destination.

  2. We went to Walnut creek last summer and had a nice time. The only thing I did like was no reception with Sprint. Beautiful area though. We use choice hotels all the time, very clean.

    1. The area is gorgeous! We didn't have a problem with our phones. We are on Total Wireless which runs off of Verizon lines.

  3. I am guessing your husband does not have a lot of requests to share his treats?
I enjoy seeing your children and cannot believe how much they are growing. While your guys are growing by leaps and bounds, your daughter has become a lovely young lady over the past year.
