Basketball Season is Upon Us

Happy Monday everyone! I hope everyone had a good weekend. Thankfully we did not lose power Saturday night even though we had some pretty high winds. I hope that everyone who was in the path of this storm (some got ice, snow, tornadoes, wind, etc) are safe and sound and fairing well. Our weekend was pretty good!

One of the things that got our weekend off to a good start was basketball! Saturday morning was the official start of the 2019-2020 Upward Basketball games for the boys.(Rebecca made the decision NOT to play this year as she has other activities that she is involved in) They have had 3 practices total so I wasn't expecting much of the games. Boy was I wrong. Each team played really well and I definitely could see improvement from last year.

Ben's game was in the morning. He did really well. Last year he wouldn't dribble at all and he never attempted a shot on his own without the coaches or refs prompting him. In today's game he dribbled several times, passed the ball beautifully, attempted a shot on his own, and played great defense. Most importantly after the game he said he had had a blast!

Jacob's game was in the afternoon. He did well as well. Jacob did well at dribbling the ball and passing. He attempted a shot and missed. He did get called for a foul and got called out 2 times by the referees for not guarding his assigned player (they have the boys wear arm bands of different colors and they are supposed to guard the boy on the other team who has the same color-- ie. red guards red, yellow guards yellow, etc.). He also said that he had a really fun time playing!

So for the next 2 months I will be spending time watching the boys playing a sport they love and having fun!

The rest of Saturday was just spent relaxing, reading, and making sure that the flashlights had batteries, etc. Sunday the kids and I went to PSR and I taught my class, then to church. After church we ran to Dollar General to get Rebecca a tri-fold display board that she needs for her history day project at school and a pack of toilet paper on sale. Once home the kids played, I made some cookie bars and we spent the afternoon relaxing more and watching some football. After watching the Chiefs/Texans game, we settled in to watch the Packers/Seahawks game. That was of great interest in our house because I am a huge Packers fan and Jacob is a huge Seahawks fan. There was lots of good ribbing going on. Thankfully the Packers pulled it off and will play next week!

Today, I have to tutor this morning, babysit this afternoon, then take boys to practice this evening. In between I need to work on laundry and cleaning up the house. The kids are home today as it is a teacher work day for school, so I will get them to clean their rooms too.

What are you up to today? Did you have a nice weekend?

  1. Saturday was wild weather down here with tornado watches and tornadoes. From now on, I drive to church! After the tornadoes and storms, the day was very warm and beautiful with blue skies.

    1. This winter has been crazy with crazy weather. I guess there were 2 tornadoes that touched down in Western Ohio. We didn't have that here which is good.

  2. The best thing about being in Seattle during football season is that when the Seahawks are playing, the stores are empty.
We stayed close to home as usual. I spent Saturday finishing DH's quilt top--I gave him the fabric and a picture of the quilt block for Christmas. Now I just have to quilt and bind it. I made pork and sauerkraut in the crock pot for Sunday dinner, and baked a peanut butter sheet cake with chocolate frosting for dessert. Today, college classes cancelled due to weather, so no shuttling the college kid. Public school open though.

  7. Red pepper flakes can help you feel satisfied for a longer period of time. Therefore, if you eat these earlier in the day, red pepper flakes can lower your cravings later in the day.

  8. Turn off the television, and take up a hobby. Paint, knit, make jewelry or learn how to play an instrument. Volunteer at a local organization. Visit the library or an art museum. Go to yard sales or hold a yard sale. Keep your mind occupied, and your stomach will hardly notice that it missed its afternoon snack.
