Spring Break Day 8: Part 1: The Ohio Bird Sanctuary

We had such a busy day on Saturday. We had to head out to Mansfield so that Rebecca could attend an American Heritage Girls field trip to the Ohio Bird Sanctuary. They are working on a nature badge and this was one of the requirements. Since it was a 40 minute drive, I decided to take the boys as well and I would walk around with them while Rebecca was doing her field trip.

The Ohio Bird Sanctuary is a nonprofit that helps house native birds to Ohio that have been injured and can't be released in the wild. They also rehabilitate birds that have been injured in the wild and have a chance for release into the wild.

The Ohio Bird Sanctuary has a nice selection of birds to view and a nice aviary to walk through. The boys had a blast. My sister came along as well. (Bill had to work so couldn't attend).

They also have a several nature trails that run throughout the property and we took a small (1 mile) hike before we got back to eat lunch at the property.

Speaking of lunch, Benjamin was thrilled to eat a "packed" lunch. He was so excited that I had packed him a lunch. It was really cute.

Rebecca really enjoyed her tour with her AHG troop. To say that Rebecca loves birds in an understatement. She really, really, really loves birds! Before we left, she asked me to take her picture with a little screech owl that one of the volunteers had out of it's cage. This owl fell out of it's nest as a baby and had a head injury which caused it to be blind in one eye. That eye is also now getting cataracts. It was really cute! (Rebecca is also holding a picture of her AHG penpal who is doing a "Flat Stanley" type project but with a cutout of herself.)

It was a great way to start out the day. If you are ever in the Mansfield Ohio area I would recommend checking out the sanctuary
