A Dog Fountain, Town Square and Painting

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a good weekend! Yesterday, we had a good family day.

Bill and I knew that we wanted to get out for a walk in the morning, before it got too hot, but we were both in the mood for some different type of walk. Usually we go to parks or the bike path to walk. Yesterday we decided to take a walk through our town. So often we drive through our town and don't take the time to appreciate the architecture or things that make our town beautiful.

We decided to head toward the downtown area with our destination being the dog fountain that the city installed. It is made to resemble the more well known dog fountain in Berczy Park in Toronto. I thought the kids would get a kick out of it and I was right. The fountain has 18 sculptures of dogs, 1 cat, 1 horse and an apple. The kids loved it. Ben and Jacob said that the cat was their favorite sculpture.

When we left the fountain we headed toward the town square as Ben wanted to see the fountain there. The square is the site of our town's weekly summer farm market; due to COVID restrictions I haven't been to the summer farm market this year. It was nice to be able to take in the different sites on the square. Our first stop was Cooper Fountain. Ben enjoyed making a wish in the fountain.

Then it was over to look at the main focal point of the square which is a civil war union soldier monument that is over 140 years old and towers over the square.

Finally it was over to check out the war memorials and then head back toward home.

As we were walking home, we passed a church with a very appropriate sign in front of it for this day and age. They also had the message in other languages which is unique in our small city.

After we got home, we had lunch and just relaxed in the afternoon. Rebecca video chatted with her friends. Bill and the boys watched the first Harry Potter movie. They have been reading "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" before bed and finished it last night. The boys really enjoyed the book AND the movie. While they were watching the movie, I decided to make some pumpkin bread and did a little painting. It is a stress relief for me.

This week, we have a busy week. Today I have my niece and nephew as they don't have school due to teacher in-service days. Today is also the last day of Summer break for my kids. They go back to school tomorrow in a hybrid mode. They are in the school buildings 2 days a week and doing virtual learning 3 days a week. We shall see how this will go. Today, I need to label all their supplies and pack up their bags for tomorrow. I am not sure what else we will be getting into today.

What about you? Any plans for today? What did you get into this weekend? Do you ever take time to stop and enjoy some of your town?

Enjoy the rest of your Monday! :)

  1. That dog fountain is awesome! How fun is that? Great sign for peace as well. We should do better around here about enjoying our town. Hope your kids have a wonderful first day of school (first day here as well, our hybrid plan is every other week at the high school & ms but I think our elementary kids get to go every day because enough parents opted for on-line) and that you all have a wonderful week as well! P.S. You're a very talented painter, cute little owl painting.

  3. Thanks- I enjoyed the photos. What time were you there- the town looks deserted. GS almost 16 has opted only for online learning and my GD in Atlanta is being home schooled- she's just 6. Oldest GS moved into the dorm Sunday- I wonder how long it will be opened. He's just a freshman and was so excited plus he's playing in the band if the football team plays- maybe no fans? I hope your kids and the niece/nephew have a good start to the school year. Will you be tutoring?

  4. What a nice change of pace, even with being a nature loving family. Good luck with the kids schooling.
