Well winter has decided to show up a few days early with everything from snow, to sunny but frigid temperatures, to low wind chills, to now freezing rain and ice.
Tuesday we were supposed to get a dusting of snow....Well what really happened was it snowed ALL day long. Enough snow and bad roads that my husband's game he was supposed to cover was cancelled. Jacob's wrestling practice got cancelled. And my tutoring session got cancelled. So we went out and played in the snow!
The scenery was really pretty with all the snow and felt peaceful, probably because I didn't have to go anywhere that night.
Wednesday the weather was cold with a few snow showers but nothing horrible. Since the roads were pretty clear I did my running around...grocery store, etc.
Thursday the weather was FREEZING. We woke up to wind chills close to -15, so our schools were on a 2 hour delay, which meant that Ben had to be at school at 10 and the other 2 needed to be at school at 11. My whole day was thrown off. That night I had to take Jacob to wrestling and it was COLD!
Friday, the temperature was COLD, with a high of 15 but with no real wind chill. I went to Benjamin's class' Christmas party. It was really cute. After his class was over, my mom took me, Ben, and my sister out for lunch.
Late last night, it was starting to snow again but we only got about 1/2 inch before it changed over to freezing rain and ice. It was supposed to warm up over night and turn over to rain, but that still hasn't happened and it is almost noon here. The roads are a mess. Bill said it took him 20 minutes to get home last night, when normally it takes him 5 minutes.
So today I am taking the day to stay in and do laundry and bake! I want to make cookies for teachers gifts and since my kids only go to school Monday and Tuesday next week I have to get them done this weekend. I told the kids that today is baking day and they are going to help!
I have already made a batch of m&m cookies. I still want to make buckeyes, sugar cookie cut outs (although this might wait until later in the week), peanut butter blossoms, and maybe kolacky, and maybe chocolate chip cookies.
Tomorrow it is supposed to be really cold (high in the teens) so all of this water will refreeze if it ever melts today. If the weather is bad where you are, I hope everyone is safe and warm!
Have a happy Saturday everyone!
Have a great cold weather baking day!
ReplyDeleteIt is drizzling here and the highs are supposed to be in the mid 70's today. A cold at home day sounds fantastic.
