Spring Break Day 1: Family Fun Day at the Zoo, Red Robin and World Market

So the kids' Spring break officially began yesterday. As it so happens, Bill was given yesterday off of work after working several 70+ hour weeks the last few weeks. So with everyone home, what were we to do?

Well, I took control and decided that it was going to a be a "Family Fun Day." I planned most of the day and it began with surprising Bill and the kids with a trip to the Columbus Zoo

It was such a fun day. The weather was great...a little chilly, but sunny all day long with very few clouds. This meant that many of the animals were awake and very active. We didn't encounter crowds like we would if we went later in the Spring or in the Summer.

Our favorite animals were the polar bears. There were 2 in the enclosure and they were so active as it was feeding time. The kids also got to seem them playing with 2 balls. They are magnificent creatures.

Rebecca loved seeing all the birds and when we came upon the Bald Eagles, she went crazy. "I see the eagles. I see the eagles!" She was so excited.

Other highlights of the day included:

-hearing the flamingos yelling at each other....

-Bill getting in a conversation with a sting ray....

-Seeing a baby langur that was only a month old...

-And revisiting a baby elephant that we saw shortly after it was born 9 years ago.

The kids had a blast. They LOVED all the animals. They also loved  sitting on all the different statues throughout the zoo and riding the train.

After we left the zoo, we decided to go get an early dinner since we were in Columbus. We headed off to Red Robin and had a very yummy dinner!

Then we decided to go around the corner and check out World Market, as my husband wanted to see if he could find some international kit kats. We came home with several international treats to try.

After getting home, we rested for a bit and then watched "Sing" as a family and ate some of the yummy treats! Personally, I didn't care for the Arnott's Mint Slices from Australia or the flavored kitkats (they were green tea and almond/cranberry). The chocolate dipped biscuits and chocolate covered cookies are from Germany and the U.K. and they were super yummy. I still haven't tried the cookie with chocolate and pink himilayan salt from France or any of the Godiva chocolate liquor.

We headed to bed exhausted but happy because of the great "Family Fun Day".

    1. Yeah I think it was the weather that made them so active. Usually when we go every animal is asleep! LOL
